Rollo Ship vs Canadian-origin-only shipping platforms

Both are free to start. The difference is where you're allowed to ship from, who's allowed to open an account, and whether the parcel has to leave your hands at a branch.

The origin gap

A Canada-only account has one hard edge

Canadian-origin-only shipping platforms are built around one direction of travel: parcels that start in Canada. That covers a lot. Here's the day it doesn't.

What's built in, and what you connect yourself

Rollo Ship is not a courier. It's shipping software that puts carrier accounts side by side, so it matters which rates arrive with the account and which ones you bring.

Carrier On the free plan Rates you get
Canada Post Built in — no Canada Post account needed Up to 34% savings on domestic shipping within Canada and up to 58% on international shipping, without any contracts, fees, or volume minimums.
UPS Built in — no UPS account needed Save on the domestic shipping services your business needs. Get discounts on domestic shipping, including up to 76% off UPS Standard®, up to 63% off UPS Express Saver® and UPS Expedited® shipping services. And enjoy a rate inclusive of Fuel and Residential Surcharges. For shipments to the U.S., get discounts including up to 63% off UPS Standard® to the U.S. and up to 76% off UPS Express®, UPS Express Saver® and UPS Expedited® shipping services to the U.S.
Purolator Connect your own Purolator account Your own negotiated Purolator rates, shown next to the other carriers at rate-selection time. Rollo Ship does not apply a discount to Purolator.
FedEx Connect your own FedEx account Your own negotiated FedEx rates, compared alongside the built-in carriers. Rollo Ship does not apply a discount to FedEx.
USPS Built in — for shipments that start in the US Up to 90% off retail USPS rates on select services. Available on US-origin shipments, which is why a US-origin capability matters for a Canadian business with US inventory.

Canada → US, in the software

What actually happens at the border

Cross-border is where shipping software either earns its place or gets out of the way. Here is exactly what Rollo Ship does — and one thing it doesn't.

Landed-cost estimates
Before you buy the label, Rollo Ship can estimate duties, taxes and brokerage on a cross-border shipment, so the number you quote a customer isn't a guess you find out about later.
UPS Paperless® Invoice
The commercial invoice transmits digitally with the shipment rather than riding along in a pouch, which is what keeps a Canada-to-US parcel from sitting at customs over a paperwork mismatch.
Print return labels
Return labels print at the same time as the outbound label. Electronic and pickup return services are not supported — print returns are.
Saturday ground delivery
Committed Saturday ground delivery is available within Canada and to and from the United States on UPS, which shortens the effective week for a Thursday-afternoon order.
Duties paid at checkout — not supported
Rollo Ship does not support Delivered Duty Paid. You cannot collect duties from the buyer at checkout and have Rollo Ship remit them. Estimate the landed cost, price accordingly, and ship duties-unpaid.

Full customs workflow, HS codes and cross-border detail live on the international shipping page.

Which Canadian shipper are you?

Rollo Ship is used by anyone who needs to move a parcel — the count noun here is shippers, not sellers.

Canadian seller with US inventory

Stock sits in a US warehouse or with a US fulfilment partner, and the rest ships from home. One Rollo Ship account covers both origins, so you aren't running two platforms and reconciling two label histories.

One account, two origin countries.

Canada Post small business shipper

Most parcels go Canada Post and always have. Rollo Ship keeps Canada Post built in, with no separate commercial account to negotiate, and puts Purolator and UPS beside it so you see when another service is the better call.

Keep Canada Post. Add the comparison.

Shipping something that isn't a sale

A studio mailing prints, a clinic sending samples, a person shipping a bike across the country. Platforms restricted to ecommerce transactions turn this away. Rollo Ship doesn't require an order behind the parcel.

No sale required to print a label.

Operator who ships from the floor

Batch labels, a thermal printer on the bench, and labels printed from a phone when you're away from it. Rollo Ship runs on web, iOS and Android on the same free plan and pairs with the Rollo Wireless Thermal Printer.

Print from wherever the parcel is.

What Rollo Ship costs a Canadian shipper

No subscription. The first 200 labels carry no platform fee. After that, the per-label fee falls as you ship more.

1

No card to start

Create an account and compare Canada Post, Purolator, UPS, FedEx and USPS rates with nothing on file. There is no trial clock and no monthly fee waiting at the end of it.

2

Fund to ship

Add funds to your Rollo balance to pay the carrier's discounted postage on the service you pick. Funding by bank transfer earns 3 Rollo Rewards points per dollar instead of 1.

3

Fees fall as volume climbs

Rollo Rewards has five tiers: 5¢ per label at Newbie and Basic, 3¢ at Pro, 2¢ at Expert, and 1¢ at VIP. Higher tiers also unlock free hardware. See Rollo Rewards

Canadian shipping: common questions

Can you ship a product from Canada to a US address?

Yes. Rollo Ship creates labels for shipments that start in Canada and deliver to a United States address, using Canada Post, UPS, and your connected Purolator or FedEx account. Before you buy the label, Rollo Ship can estimate duties, taxes and brokerage, and the commercial invoice transmits digitally on UPS shipments. Rollo Ship does not collect duties from the buyer at checkout.

What is a Canadian-origin-only shipping platform?

A Canadian-origin-only shipping platform creates labels for parcels that start in Canada — Canada to Canada, Canada to the United States, and Canada to the rest of the world. It cannot create a label for a shipment that originates in the United States. Rollo Ship supports both Canada and United States origin from a single free account, which matters once inventory sits on both sides of the border.

Which carriers does Rollo Ship support for Canadian shippers?

Rollo Ship compares Canada Post, Purolator, UPS, FedEx and USPS from one account. Canada Post and UPS rates are built in with no separate carrier account required. Purolator and FedEx work by connecting your own account, so you ship on your own negotiated rates. USPS applies to shipments that start in the United States.

Do I need to drop parcels at a branch?

No. Rollo Ship is software, not a courier network, so the parcel moves through the carrier you selected. You arrange a carrier pickup or use that carrier's own drop-off locations. Platforms that operate their own consolidation network often require a branch drop-off or a scheduled route pickup, which ties your shipping to their service area.

Is Rollo Ship free, and what does a label cost?

Rollo Ship has no subscription and no credit card is required to open an account. The first 200 labels carry no platform fee. After that the platform fee starts at 5¢ per label and falls to 1¢ at the VIP tier of Rollo Rewards. You separately fund a Rollo balance to pay the carrier's discounted postage for each shipment.

Can I use Rollo Ship if I am not an ecommerce business?

Yes. Rollo Ship is available to anyone shipping a parcel, whether or not there is a sale behind it — a studio, a clinic, a repair shop, or an individual sending something across the country. Some Canadian shipping platforms restrict accounts to ecommerce businesses shipping against a transaction. Rollo Ship does not require an order to print a label.

Does Rollo Ship have a mobile app for Canadian shippers?

Yes. Rollo Ship runs on web, iOS and Android with the same free plan on all three. You can compare carrier rates, buy discounted labels and print from a phone or from a desktop. Many Canadian shipping platforms are web only, so a label created away from the workstation means waiting until you are back at it.

How much can a Canadian business save on shipping rates?

It depends on weight, destination and service, but the built-in rates are published. Canada Post through Rollo Ship offers up to 34% savings on domestic shipping within Canada and up to 58% on international shipping, without any contracts, fees, or volume minimums. UPS discounts within Canada reach up to 76% off UPS Standard®. Comparing all carriers before printing is what turns those ceilings into an actual saving.

Does Rollo Ship handle customs paperwork?

Rollo Ship supports landed-cost estimates covering duties, taxes and brokerage, and UPS Paperless® Invoice for digital transmission of the commercial invoice. It also supports declared value, signature required, dimensional weight and printed return labels. It does not support Delivered Duty Paid, so duties cannot be collected from the buyer at checkout and remitted by Rollo Ship.

If your parcels all start in Canada today, a Canada-origin account covers you. The question worth asking is what happens the first week they don't.

Rollo Ship is a free multi-carrier shipping platform that compares Canada Post, Purolator, UPS, FedEx and USPS rates in one dashboard, for shippers in both Canada and the United States.
