UPS Shipping labels: 3 ways to print

There are more than 400 The UPS Store® locations across Canada, and most will print a label for you for a per-page fee. Two of the three options below skip that trip entirely. Here is what each one actually costs in money, time and equipment.

At a UPS location At home, plain paper At home, thermal printer
Cost to print A per-page printing fee, charged on top of postage Ink and paper you already have No ink — thermal printing uses heat
What you need The label on your phone, plus the trip Any inkjet or laser printer, tape or a pouch A 4×6 thermal printer and label stock
Time per label Travel time, plus queueing at the counter About a minute, plus cutting and taping A few seconds — peel and stick
Works for batches One parcel at a time Yes, but every sheet needs cutting A whole day of orders in one run
Rate you pay The rate quoted at the counter that day Whatever rate the platform you used applied On Rollo Ship, up to 76% off UPS Standard® within Canada*
Reprinting a torn label Another trip, another printing fee Reprint from your shipment history Reprint from the same record, no extra charge

All three produce the same valid UPS label. Rollo Ship generates the label with no fee in every case — the printer only changes how it gets onto the box. Check what your package would cost.

*Discounts off UPS daily rates. Rates are limited to shipping from Canada only. Rates and any applicable discounts are subject to change at any time without notice. Inclusive of applicable fuel and residential surcharge. Not including other additional applicable charges and taxes.

Saturday ground delivery runs within Canada and to and from the U.S.

Does UPS deliver on Saturdays in Canada?

Yes. Since 2024, UPS has offered committed Saturday ground delivery of residential shipments as a published, general service offering within Canada and to and from the United States. Eligible parcels arrive up to two days sooner, and you do not have to do anything differently when you create the label.

  • Two days faster, domestically Eligible one-day-in-transit parcels picked up Friday, and two-day-in-transit parcels picked up Thursday, are delivered on Saturday.
  • No extra fee for residential Eligible residential parcels are delivered Saturday at no additional cost above Monday-to-Friday shipping rates.
  • Nothing to configure No special programming, processing or labeling. Eligible shipments are identified automatically once the label exists.
  • Commercial addresses too Since 2025, optional Saturday ground delivery to commercial addresses is available on UPS Standard®. An additional fee applies.

Eligibility is based on origin postal code, UPS defined Saturday delivery service territory and residential address classification or available UPS Access Point® locations. An additional fee applies for optional UPS Standard® Saturday delivery to a commercial address.

What the UPS rate covers, and what UPS bills separately

This is the question that catches out most first-time cross-border shippers. The discounted rate you see in Rollo Ship is a transportation rate. Customs charges are a separate matter, assessed by UPS after the parcel crosses.

In the rate you see at label creation

  • Transportation for the UPS service you selected
  • Applicable fuel surcharge
  • Applicable residential surcharge
  • Dimensional weight, already calculated from the measurements you entered

Billed separately by UPS

  • Duties and taxes on cross-border shipments
  • Customs brokerage charges
  • Other additional applicable charges and taxes
  • Optional Saturday delivery to a commercial address

One practical note for anyone shipping Canada to the U.S.: UPS Paperless® Invoice is a UPS service that transmits customs data digitally, so you are not attaching three printed copies of a commercial invoice to the box. UPS also restricts certain items for legal and safety reasons — check the UPS.com list of prohibited and restricted items before you ship something unusual, because shipping a restricted item can mean confiscated goods and a closed shipping account.

The things that come up after the label is made

Creating a UPS return label

Generate a prepaid return label from the original shipment in a couple of clicks, then email it to the customer or drop it in the box.

A return label is only billed if it is actually used, so sending one with every order costs nothing until someone returns something.

Reprinting a label

Every label you create stays in your shipment history. If a print job jams or a label tears, reprint it from the same record at no extra charge — you are not buying a second label.

Do UPS labels expire?

A UPS label does not carry a hard expiry date, but the rate quoted on it is tied to the day it was created. Rates change, and a label left sitting can be re-rated on delivery.

Void unused labels before your billing period closes so you are not charged for postage you never used.

Printing UPS labels in bulk

If you are shipping dozens of orders a day, creating labels one at a time is the bottleneck. Rollo Ship groups your orders, applies your saved rules, and prints the whole batch of UPS labels in a single run.

Rollo Ship uses AI-powered rate selection that groups similar orders, applies your shipping rules, and recommends the lowest-cost qualifying service before the label is printed.

  • Group a whole day of orders into one print job
  • Apply saved packaging and UPS service rules across the batch
  • Send every label to a thermal printer at once
  • Per-label cost falls to as low as 1¢ at the VIP tier

Rollo Ship is more than UPS. From the same free account you can also:

  • Compare real-time rates See live rates across USPS, UPS, FedEx, Canada Post and Purolator side by side.
  • Track in real time Follow every shipment from label creation to delivery in one dashboard.
  • Ship from Canada or the US One account covers Canadian-origin, US-origin and cross-border shipments.

Worth knowing before you set up: USPS, UPS and Canada Post rates are built into the free account, while FedEx and Purolator connect with your own carrier account. See Canada Post rates and services in Rollo Ship or connect a Purolator account.

Rollo Wireless Thermal Printer printing a 4 by 6 UPS shipping label Stack of 4 by 6 Rollo shipping labels with a printed UPS sample label on top

Print at home with the Rollo Wireless Thermal Printer (X1040)

Plain paper and tape produce a perfectly valid UPS label. But if you are printing every day — and especially through a Canadian winter, where a taped paper label is the first thing to go soggy — a thermal printer takes ink out of the equation and produces a 4×6 label in a couple of seconds.

Every Rollo Wireless Thermal Printer includes

  • A free pack of 500 4×6 shipping labels — start printing immediately
  • AirPrint certification, with over-the-air updates
  • Mac, Windows, iPhone, iPad, Android, Chromebook and Linux support
  • A one-year replacement warranty and a 30-day money-back guarantee

Each Rollo product stands on its own, and they combine for compounding rewards: printing labels on Rollo Ship earns points toward lower per-label pricing and free hardware at higher tiers.

UPS shipping in Canada: common questions

Can UPS print my shipping label for me in Canada?
Yes. There are more than 400 The UPS Store locations across Canada, and most will print a label from an email or a QR code for a per-page fee charged on top of postage. You can skip both the fee and the trip by creating the label in Rollo Ship and printing it at home. A UPS label is a standard 4x6 image, so any inkjet, laser or thermal printer produces a valid one.
How do I create a UPS shipping label in Canada?
Open a free Rollo Ship account with a Canadian ship-from address, enter the destination and the parcel weight, then compare rates across USPS, UPS, FedEx, Canada Post and Purolator side by side. Choose the UPS service that matches your delivery promise and the label is generated instantly, ready to print or save.
Do I need a UPS account to print a UPS label?
No. Rollo Ship gives you discounted UPS rates from a Canadian address without opening a separate UPS account, signing up for a subscription or meeting a monthly shipping minimum. You create the Rollo Ship account, enter the parcel, and the discounted UPS rate is applied at label creation.
How much does it cost to print a shipping label?
Creating the label on Rollo Ship is free for your first 200 labels, then 5 cents each, falling to as low as 1 cent at the VIP tier of Rollo Rewards. Printing it costs whatever paper and ink you already use, or nothing beyond label stock if you print on a thermal printer.
How much can I save on UPS rates shipping from Canada?
Discounts differ by lane. Within Canada, you get up to 76% off UPS Standard and up to 63% off UPS Express Saver and UPS Expedited. Shipping to the United States, up to 63% off UPS Standard and up to 76% off UPS Express, Express Saver and Expedited. Discounts are off UPS daily rates, limited to shipping from Canada, and subject to change without notice.
Does UPS deliver on Saturdays and weekends in Canada?
Yes, on Saturdays. Since 2024 UPS has offered committed Saturday ground delivery of residential shipments within Canada and to and from the United States, at no additional cost above Monday-to-Friday rates for eligible parcels. Nothing changes in how you create the label. Eligibility depends on origin postal code, the UPS defined Saturday service territory and address classification.
Can I ship from Canada to the United States on Rollo Ship?
Yes. Canada to the United States is a discounted lane on the free plan, with up to 63% off UPS Standard and up to 76% off UPS Express, Express Saver and Expedited. The same account also handles shipments that originate in the United States, so a seller working on both sides of the border does not need two shipping accounts.
Are UPS brokerage fees, duties and taxes included in the rate?
No. The rate you see at label creation is a transportation rate, inclusive of applicable fuel and residential surcharges. Duties, taxes, customs brokerage charges and other additional applicable charges are assessed separately by UPS on cross-border shipments. Budget for them separately from the label price when you are quoting a customer.
Can I print multiple UPS labels at once?
Yes. Rollo Ship imports orders from connected stores, groups similar parcels together, applies your saved shipping rules, and sends the whole batch to your printer in a single print job. This is the fastest route once you are shipping more than a handful of orders a day.
How do I create a UPS return label?
Generate a prepaid return label from the original shipment in Rollo Ship, then email it to your customer or include it in the box. Return labels are only billed when they are actually scanned into the network, so including one with every order costs nothing unless it gets used.
How do I schedule a UPS pickup or find a drop-off point in Canada?
Book a UPS On-Call Pickup from your home or office directly inside Rollo Ship once the label is created. If you ship regular volume, a Daily Pickup brings a driver by every day for a small fee. To drop off instead, Canada has over 1,200 UPS Access Point locations, including The UPS Store, UPS Customer Centre and Staples.
Do UPS shipping labels expire?
A UPS label does not carry a hard expiry date, but the rate on it is tied to the day it was created, and a label held for a long stretch can be re-rated when it enters the network. Void any label you are not going to use before your billing period closes so you are not charged for unused postage.
