TL;DR: UPS Next Day Air® is UPS®’s overnight air service: your package arrives the next business day, backed by UPS®’s money-back guarantee in 2026. It comes in three levels: UPS Next Day Air® Early (as early as 8 a.m. in major cities), UPS Next Day Air® (10:30 a.m. to most businesses, noon to most homes) and UPS Next Day Air Saver® (end of day, guaranteed by 11:59 p.m. for now). Saturday delivery is a paid option for Early and Next Day Air® only; Saver never delivers on Saturday, and UPS® has no Sunday deliveries. In Rollo Ship, a free multi-carrier shipping app, all three appear side by side with their delivery dates. On October 7, 2026, the Rollo shipping calculator quoted a 5 lb, 12 x 10 x 8 in box from Yonkers, NY, to Los Angeles at $67.79 for Saver, $75.41 for Next Day Air® and $105.41 for Early, all due the same day, versus $36.84 for UPS 2nd Day Air®. Rates vary by weight and can change.

In This Guide
Some orders can’t wait. A replacement part, a gift that has to land before the weekend, a contract that needs a signature tomorrow. For U.S. sellers who ship with UPS®, the answer is usually one of the three UPS Next Day Air® services, but “next day” comes with rules that trip people up: business days, cutoff times, residential delivery windows and Saturday options.
This guide is for online sellers and small businesses in the U.S. who need to promise a delivery date and keep it. It explains what Next Day Air® actually means, when each version arrives, which ones are guaranteed in 2026, how Saturday delivery works and what drives the price. Service details come from UPS®’s own service and guarantee pages, checked in October 2026. If two days is fast enough, our UPS 2nd Day Air® guide covers that service.
The quickest way to choose is to compare delivery dates and prices for the same package. A multi-carrier shipping app like Rollo Ship lists every UPS® next-day service next to 2nd Day Air®, Ground and USPS, so you can see what an earlier arrival costs before you print the label.
What Is UPS Next Day Air®?
UPS Next Day Air® is UPS®’s overnight air service for U.S. domestic shipments. The package flies through UPS®’s air network overnight and is delivered on the next business day. UPS Next Day Air® itself reaches all 50 states and Puerto Rico; the Early and Saver versions cover the continental U.S.
“Next day” always means the next business day. UPS® business days are Monday through Friday, excluding UPS® holidays. So a package you ship on Friday arrives on Monday unless you pay for Saturday delivery, and a package that misses your location’s last pickup leaves a day later.
In everyday terms, Next Day Air® and “overnight shipping” mean the same thing. It suits urgent orders where speed matters more than cost: last-minute customer orders, replacement parts, signed documents and perishable or medical items. UPS® describes the full lineup on its domestic shipping services page.
UPS Next Day Air® Service Levels: Early, Next Day Air® and Saver
UPS® sells three next-day services: UPS Next Day Air® Early, UPS Next Day Air® and UPS Next Day Air Saver®. They all arrive the next business day; what changes is the time of day, where they deliver, whether Saturday is possible and the price. Early costs the most and Saver the least.

| UPS® service | Delivery commitment | Coverage | Saturday delivery | Money-back guarantee (2026) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| UPS Next Day Air® Early | As early as 8 a.m. in major cities; later in some areas | 48 contiguous states and Anchorage, AK | Paid add-on | Active |
| UPS Next Day Air® | 10:30 a.m., noon or end of day by address; noon for most homes | All 50 states and Puerto Rico | Paid add-on | Active |
| UPS Next Day Air Saver® | Typically 3 p.m. or 4:30 p.m. to businesses, end of day to homes; guaranteed by 11:59 p.m. | From all 50 states to the 48 contiguous states | Not available | Active (end of day) |

UPS Next Day Air® Early
The earliest option. UPS® delivers as early as 8 a.m. to major cities, and a little later in other areas. It’s for packages that have to be there before the workday starts: lab samples, legal filings, parts for a machine that’s down. It costs the most of the three. For timing strategies and real-world scenarios, see when to choose UPS Next Day Air® Early.
UPS Next Day Air®
The standard overnight service. Most businesses get it by 10:30 a.m.; some areas are committed by noon or end of day. Since 2021, UPS® has committed residential deliveries that would normally arrive at 10:30 a.m. by noon instead. It’s the right pick when the recipient needs the package in the morning, not just “tomorrow”.
UPS Next Day Air Saver®
The lower-cost overnight option. To businesses it typically arrives by 3 p.m. or 4:30 p.m., and to homes by end of day. Until further notice, UPS® has extended its guaranteed time for Saver to 11:59 p.m. on the delivery date, so don’t promise customers an afternoon time. Saver isn’t sold to addresses where Next Day Air® is already committed for end of day, and it never delivers on Saturday. Our UPS Next Day Air Saver® guide goes deeper on when online retailers use it.
UPS Next Day Air® Early, UPS Next Day Air® and UPS Next Day Air Saver® are available in Rollo Ship from the U.S., with up to 75% off UPS Next Day Air®.* From Canada, the next-day options are UPS Express® Early, UPS Express® and UPS Express Saver®.
*Discounts off UPS daily rates. Rates are limited to shipping from the U.S. only. Rates and any applicable discounts are subject to change at any time without notice.
How Long Does UPS Next Day Air® Take?
UPS Next Day Air® takes one business day. A package picked up or dropped off before your location’s cutoff on Monday arrives on Tuesday. Some Alaska, Hawaii and remote addresses need extra time. Miss the air cutoff, or ship on a Friday without Saturday delivery, and the package arrives a business day later.
Two things decide whether “next day” actually happens:
- The cutoff: the clock starts when UPS® picks up or receives the package, not when you print the label. Air cutoffs vary by location and pickup type, so check the last air pickup time at your drop-off point or on your scheduled pickup. Miss it and the package ships the next business day.
- Business days: weekends and UPS® holidays don’t count. Friday shipments arrive Monday unless you add Saturday delivery, which Saver doesn’t offer.
| UPS® service | Shipped Monday to Thursday | Shipped Friday | Shipped Friday with Saturday Delivery |
|---|---|---|---|
| UPS Next Day Air® Early | Next business day, as early as 8 a.m. | Monday morning | Saturday morning |
| UPS Next Day Air® | Next business day, 10:30 a.m. or noon (noon for most homes) | Monday morning | Saturday |
| UPS Next Day Air Saver® | Next business day, by end of day | Monday, by end of day | Not available |
For an exact commitment from your ZIP code to your customer’s, UPS®’s Calculate Time and Cost tool shows the scheduled delivery date and time before you ship. Shipping software shows the same delivery dates when you rate a package.
Is UPS Next Day Air® Guaranteed?
Yes. UPS®’s money-back Service Guarantee is active in 2026 for UPS Next Day Air® Early, UPS Next Day Air® and UPS Next Day Air Saver®. If an eligible package misses its committed time, you can request a refund of the shipping charge.
Two details on UPS®’s Service Guarantee page change what “on time” means right now:
- Saver is guaranteed by end of day. Until further notice, the guaranteed time for UPS Next Day Air Saver® is 11:59 p.m. on the delivery date, not the traditional 3 p.m. or 4:30 p.m.
- Homes get a noon commitment. UPS Next Day Air® deliveries to residences that would normally be due by 10:30 a.m. are committed by 12:00 p.m., and the guarantee is based on that later time.
The guarantee comes with conditions and exclusions set out in UPS®’s terms, such as weather disruptions and incorrect addresses. It’s also a big difference from two-day shipping: UPS® keeps the guarantee suspended for standard UPS 2nd Day Air®, UPS® Ground and UPS 3 Day Select®. Our 2nd Day Air® guide explains what that means for two-day orders, and our UPS® transit-time guide compares every service.
What to Do If a Next Day Air® Package Is Late
- Check tracking for an exception, such as an address problem or a weather delay, which can fall outside the guarantee.
- Request the refund from UPS® with the tracking number. If you bought the label through a shipping app, contact that app’s support team.
- Update your customer with the new delivery estimate before they ask.
Does UPS Next Day Air® Deliver on Saturday?
Yes, if you add it and the address qualifies. Saturday delivery is a paid option for UPS Next Day Air® Early and UPS Next Day Air®. UPS Next Day Air Saver® doesn’t deliver on Saturday, so a Saver package shipped on Friday arrives on Monday.
- How to get it: pick the Saturday Delivery option when you create the label on Friday. It isn’t added automatically to air packages.
- Where: availability depends on the destination ZIP code and is strongest in metro areas.
- Cost: UPS® adds a Saturday delivery charge on top of the overnight rate.
- Sunday: UPS® has no Sunday pickups or deliveries for these services. Details are on UPS®’s weekend pickups and deliveries page.
If a customer needs a Saturday arrival and you ship on Thursday, UPS 2nd Day Air® with Saturday Delivery is often cheaper than overnight. Compare both on the same package.
Key Features and Benefits of UPS Next Day Air®
UPS Next Day Air® gives you a guaranteed next-business-day delivery, full tracking and options to protect high-value packages. That combination is why businesses use it for orders that can’t be late. In 2026 all three Next Day Air® services carry UPS®’s money-back guarantee, and declared value and signature options add protection.

Guaranteed Delivery for Reliability
Every Next Day Air® service carries an active money-back guarantee in 2026, which lets you promise a delivery date with confidence. If UPS® misses an eligible commitment, you can claim the shipping charge back.
Comprehensive Tracking and Notifications
Next Day Air® packages are tracked from pickup to delivery, and recipients can follow them on ups.com or the UPS® app. Sharing the tracking number with your customer cuts down on “where is my order?” messages for time-sensitive or high-value shipments.
Security Options: Declared Value and Signatures
UPS® covers loss or damage up to $100 of declared value per package at no extra charge. For anything worth more, declare the higher value when you create the label and pay the added fee. You can also require a signature, or an adult signature, so the package goes to the right person.
How Rollo Ship Helps With UPS Next Day Air®
Rollo Ship is free multi-carrier shipping software with UPS® built in for U.S. shippers, so you don’t need a separate UPS® account. You see UPS Next Day Air® Early, UPS Next Day Air® and UPS Next Day Air Saver® with their delivery dates, print the label, and schedule a pickup in one place. Pair it with a home shipping station and overnight orders go out before the cutoff.
How Much Does UPS Next Day Air® Cost?
There’s no flat price. UPS Next Day Air® rates depend on the zone, the package’s billable weight, the service level and surcharges. Early costs the most, Saver the least, and every one of them costs far more than ground.

Factors Affecting Pricing
- Zone: the distance between the origin and destination ZIP codes. Coast to coast costs more than a nearby state.
- Billable weight: the higher of actual weight and dimensional weight.
- Service level: Early costs more than Next Day Air®, which costs more than Saver.
- Surcharges: residential delivery, fuel, delivery-area and Saturday delivery charges are added to the base rate.
Using Rollo Ship for UPS Next Day Air®, U.S. sellers get discounted UPS® rates* with no subscription and no shipping minimum. The rate you see already includes fuel and residential surcharges and dimensional weight.

What One Package Actually Costs to Ship Overnight
Here’s what one Rollo Ship quote returned on Monday, October 5, 2026, for a 12 x 10 x 8 in, 5 lb box shipped from Yonkers, New York, to Los Angeles:
| UPS® service | Estimated delivery | Business days |
|---|---|---|
| UPS Next Day Air® Early | Tuesday, Oct 6 | 1 |
| UPS Next Day Air® | Tuesday, Oct 6 | 1 |
| UPS Next Day Air Saver® | Tuesday, Oct 6 | 1 |
| UPS 2nd Day Air® | Wednesday, Oct 7 | 2 |
| UPS 3 Day Select® | Thursday, Oct 8 | 3 |
| UPS® Ground | Friday, Oct 9 | 4 |
All three next-day services landed on the same day, so the extra money buys an earlier time, not an earlier date. Saver was the cheapest of the three, and Early cost the most. UPS Next Day Air® cost about twice as much as UPS 2nd Day Air® and close to five times UPS® Ground. If your customer only needs the package “tomorrow”, Saver is usually the better buy; if two days is fine, 2nd Day Air® halves the cost.
Calculating Dimensional Weight (DIM Weight)
Air services bill large, light boxes by their size, so dimensional weight hits overnight shipping hard. Our 2nd Day Air® guide walks through UPS®’s formula with an example, and dimensional weight vs actual weight covers every carrier.
Cost-Saving Strategies for UPS Next Day Air®
- Use Saver when an afternoon or evening arrival works. It usually arrives the same day as Next Day Air® for less.
- Right-size the box so dimensional weight doesn’t set the price. Weigh and measure every package.
- Check slower services first. On short routes, 2nd Day Air® or Ground may arrive in time.
- Ship to a business address when you can, which avoids the residential surcharge.
- Compare carriers on the same package, including USPS Priority Mail Express and your own FedEx account, before you buy.
*Discounts off UPS daily rates. Rates are limited to shipping from the U.S. only. Rates and any applicable discounts are subject to change at any time without notice. UPS® services and discounted rates shown are for shipments originating in the United States.
UPS Next Day Air®: When Should You Use It?
Use UPS Next Day Air® when a late package costs more than the shipping: last-minute customer orders, replacement parts, medical samples, perishables and signed documents. Choose Early for first thing in the morning, Next Day Air® for the morning and Saver for any time that day. Three groups rely on it most.

E-commerce and Retail Use Cases
Online stores use next-day shipping as a paid upgrade at checkout, for last-minute gifts and for replacing a damaged or wrong item fast. Offering it can win the order from a customer in a hurry. Price it so the upgrade covers the label, since overnight rates are several times ground.
Healthcare and Perishables
Medical practices, labs and food sellers use the morning services so samples and perishable goods arrive early and stay in condition. Pack with the right insulation, and check UPS®’s rules for perishables and regulated items before you ship.
Corporate and Legal Documents
Law firms and businesses send contracts and signed paperwork overnight with a signature requirement, so there’s a record of who received them and when. Early is common when a filing or meeting is first thing in the morning.
Rollo’s wireless label printer and Rollo Ship make these shipments quick to send: rate the package, print the UPS® label at home and hand it to the driver.
UPS Next Day Air® vs 2nd Day Air®, USPS and FedEx Overnight
UPS Next Day Air® is the right pick when the package must arrive tomorrow and a refund matters if it doesn’t. If two days is fine, UPS 2nd Day Air® costs much less. USPS Priority Mail Express and FedEx overnight are the main alternatives for next-day delivery.
| Service | Typical delivery | Money-back guarantee (2026) | Saturday | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| UPS Next Day Air® Early | Next business day, as early as 8 a.m. | Active | Available | Packages needed at the start of the day |
| UPS Next Day Air® | Next business day | Active | Available | Truly urgent orders |
| UPS Next Day Air Saver® | Next business day, by end of day | Active | Not offered | Urgent orders that can arrive in the afternoon |
| UPS 2nd Day Air A.M.® | 2nd business day, 10:30 a.m. or noon | Active | Not offered | Business deliveries that need a morning commitment |
| UPS 2nd Day Air® | 2nd business day, end of day | Suspended | Paid add-on | Cross-country orders with a near deadline |
| USPS Priority Mail Express | 1–3 days by 6 p.m. | Yes, for most destinations | Included | Light parcels and PO Box addresses |
| FedEx overnight | Next business day; 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. by service and address | Check FedEx terms | Available in some areas | Sellers with their own FedEx account |

UPS Next Day Air® vs UPS 2nd Day Air®
Next Day Air® arrives a day sooner and keeps its money-back guarantee; standard 2nd Day Air® doesn’t. In our quote above, 2nd Day Air® cost about half as much. If the customer’s deadline is two business days away, 2nd Day Air® is usually the smarter buy. The 2nd Day Air® guide covers its delivery rules, Saturday option and costs.
UPS Next Day Air® vs USPS Priority Mail Express
Priority Mail Express delivers in one to three days by 6 p.m. with a money-back guarantee, includes $100 of insurance with most shipments and reaches PO Boxes, which UPS® can’t. It’s limited to 70 lb. For a light parcel it can be cheaper; for a firm next-day morning time or a heavy box, UPS® is the stronger fit. See how USPS Priority Mail Express delivers.
UPS Next Day Air® vs FedEx Overnight
FedEx sells three overnight levels that line up with UPS®’s: First Overnight in the early morning, Priority Overnight by 10:30 a.m. to most businesses and noon to most homes, and Standard Overnight by 5 p.m. to businesses and 8 p.m. to homes. Which is cheaper depends on the zone, weight and your account rates. Our FedEx overnight guide covers its cutoffs and costs.
Choosing the Right Service Level
- Needed before the workday starts: UPS Next Day Air® Early.
- Needed in the morning, or on Saturday: UPS Next Day Air®.
- Needed tomorrow, any time: UPS Next Day Air Saver®.
- Needed in two business days: UPS 2nd Day Air®, or 2nd Day Air A.M.® for a business that needs a morning time.
- Light parcel or PO Box address: compare USPS Priority Mail Express.
Package Specifications and Shipping Guidelines
A UPS Next Day Air® package can weigh up to 150 lb, measure up to 108 inches on its longest side, and up to 165 inches in length plus girth. Girth is twice the width plus twice the height.

Weight and Size Limits
- Maximum weight: 150 lb per package. Anything heavier needs UPS® air freight.
- Maximum length: 108 inches.
- Maximum length + girth: 165 inches. Very large boxes are billed as Large Packages with a minimum billable weight; the 2nd Day Air® guide lists the thresholds.
- Restricted items: hazardous materials and some perishables need UPS® approval or can’t ship by air. Check UPS®’s rules first.
Packaging Tips for Safe Shipping
- Choose the right box: a sturdy corrugated box sized to the item, so it doesn’t shift and you don’t pay for empty space.
- Use cushioning: bubble wrap, air pillows or paper around every side of fragile items.
- Seal securely: use packing tape across the seams on the top and bottom.
- Label clearly: one label on the top, with the full address and suite number, so the package isn’t held up by an address problem.

Who This Guide Is Not For
This guide covers UPS Next Day Air® for U.S. sellers shipping parcels within the U.S. It won’t fit every situation. If your package goes abroad, starts in Canada, weighs over 150 lb or needs Sunday delivery, another service fits better.
- International shipments. Next Day Air® is domestic. For other countries, use UPS®’s worldwide express services.
- Shipments from Canada. Canadian sellers use UPS®’s cross-border services instead; see Rollo Ship for Canada.
- Freight over 150 lb. Heavy shipments need UPS® air freight.
- Sunday deliveries. UPS® has no Sunday pickups or deliveries for these services.
- Buyers tracking a package. This guide is for shippers; your tracking number on ups.com shows the delivery date.

Frequently Asked Questions About UPS Next Day Air®
What does Next Day Air mean?
Next Day Air means your package travels by air overnight and is delivered on the next business day. With UPS®, a package shipped Monday arrives Tuesday, and one shipped Friday arrives Monday unless you add Saturday delivery. The exact time depends on the service: Early, Next Day Air® or Saver.
Is UPS Next Day Air® actually next day?
Yes, the next business day, as long as UPS® picks up or receives the package before your location’s air cutoff. Weekends and UPS® holidays don’t count, so Friday shipments arrive Monday unless you pay for Saturday delivery. Some Alaska, Hawaii and remote addresses take longer.
What time does UPS Next Day Air® arrive?
UPS Next Day Air® Early arrives as early as 8 a.m. in major cities. UPS Next Day Air® arrives by 10:30 a.m., noon or end of day depending on the address, and by noon for most homes. UPS Next Day Air Saver® typically arrives in the afternoon to businesses and by end of day to homes.
Is UPS Next Day Air® guaranteed?
Yes. In 2026 UPS®’s money-back Service Guarantee is active for UPS Next Day Air® Early, UPS Next Day Air® and UPS Next Day Air Saver®. Until further notice, Saver is guaranteed by 11:59 p.m. on the delivery date, and Next Day Air® to homes is guaranteed by noon. Conditions and exclusions apply.
What happens if UPS Next Day Air® is late?
Check tracking for an exception, then request a refund of the shipping charge from UPS® under its Service Guarantee, using the tracking number. Delays caused by things like weather or a wrong address may not qualify. If you bought the label in a shipping app, contact the app’s support team.
Does UPS Next Day Air® deliver on Saturday?
Yes, as a paid option for UPS Next Day Air® Early and UPS Next Day Air® to eligible ZIP codes. Select Saturday Delivery when you create the label on Friday. UPS Next Day Air Saver® doesn’t deliver on Saturday, so a Saver package shipped Friday arrives Monday.
Does UPS Next Day Air® deliver on Sunday?
No. UPS® has no Sunday pickups or deliveries for its Next Day Air® services. A package that would land on Sunday is delivered on Monday.
What’s the difference between UPS Next Day Air® and Next Day Air Saver®?
Both arrive the next business day. UPS Next Day Air® delivers in the morning to most businesses and by noon to most homes, and offers Saturday delivery. UPS Next Day Air Saver® arrives later in the day, is guaranteed by 11:59 p.m. for now, has no Saturday delivery and costs less.
Is UPS Next Day Air® the same as overnight shipping?
Yes. Overnight shipping and next-day shipping mean the same thing: delivery on the next business day. UPS® sells it as UPS Next Day Air® Early, UPS Next Day Air® and UPS Next Day Air Saver®, which differ by delivery time and price.
Why is my UPS Next Day Air® package taking two days?
Usually because it missed the air cutoff, so its first business day started a day later, or because it shipped on Friday without Saturday delivery. Remote addresses in Alaska, Hawaii and some rural areas also need extra time. Tracking shows the scheduled delivery date.
How much does UPS Next Day Air® cost?
It depends on the zone, the billable weight, the service level and surcharges such as residential and Saturday delivery. Early costs the most and Saver the least. In one Rollo Ship quote for a 5 lb box from New York to Los Angeles, Next Day Air® cost about twice 2nd Day Air® and close to five times Ground.
Can I use UPS Next Day Air® for international shipments?
No. UPS Next Day Air® is a U.S. domestic service covering the 50 states and Puerto Rico. For other countries, UPS® offers its worldwide express services, and Canadian sellers shipping to the U.S. use UPS®’s cross-border services.
