The UPS® location finder shows these times per store. Retail cutoffs can land early in the afternoon. So check before you leave, not at the counter.
| UPS® location type | What it handles | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| The UPS Store® | Drop-off, pickup, packing, printing | Unlabeled items or packing help |
| UPS Access Point® (retail) | Pre-labeled drop-offs, including returns | Quick stops during errands |
| UPS Access Point® locker | Pickup with evening and weekend hours | After-hours package collection |
| UPS® Customer Center | Kiosks, drop-off, mobile label printing | Self-service shipments and drop-offs |
| Staples and authorized outlets | New shipments, supplies, drop-off | Buying a label on site |
UPS® Ground, UPS Ground Saver®, UPS 2nd Day Air® and UPS Next Day Air® are available in Rollo Ship. See every service on our UPS® carrier page.
Size matters before you choose a location. UPS® accepts packages up to 150 lbs. Length caps at 108 inches.
Length plus girth caps at 165 inches. Packages over 70 lbs need a heavy package label.

Retail UPS Access Point® locations can set tighter limits. Call ahead with big boxes.
Some UPS Access Point® locations offer Mobile Barcode service. They print a label from a barcode on your phone. Packages held for pickup stay seven calendar days.
Where Are USPS Drop Off Locations?
USPS drop off locations include Post Office counters and lobbies. Blue collection boxes take small items with online postage. Package Drop Units accept prepaid parcels. Each box and Post Office posts its collection times. Late drops wait for the next posted collection.

Not sure where to drop off USPS packages? Use the USPS location finder. Filter by collection box or Post Office.
Here’s where to drop off prepaid USPS packages.
| USPS drop-off option | What it accepts | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Post Office retail counter | All mail classes, plus stamped heavy items | Retail hours limit drop times |
| Blue collection box | Mail with online labels, if it fits | Slot size and posted times |
| Package Drop Unit | Prepaid packages only | Size restrictions apply |
| Your mail carrier | Prepaid packages during delivery | Booking deadline applies |
Stamps change the rules. USPS bars stamped items over 10 oz from collection boxes. Items thicker than half an inch count too.
Those pieces go to a retail counter. Items with online labels skip that rule. They still need correct postage and return information.
Your home mailbox works for small stamped packages. USPS lets carriers collect stamped items under 10 oz. Heavier or thicker stamped items get left behind.

Packages with printed online labels can use any drop-off method. That includes your mailbox and a scheduled pickup.
USPS also warns about holidays. Day-before-holiday collection times may not follow the schedule. Plan your last drop a day early.
Can You Drop Off a USPS Package at UPS® or FedEx?
Drop each package where its label’s carrier collects. A USPS label belongs at a USPS location. A UPS® label belongs at a UPS® location. Mixing carriers adds delay, not speed. Your label’s carrier makes the first tracking scan. That scan waits until it collects the box.

Per USPS, UPS® and FedEx items left at USPS wait. Those carriers collect them at their own convenience. So a misplaced box loses time.
Shipping with both carriers in peak season? Sort boxes by label before you leave. Then plan one stop per carrier.
How Do QR Code Returns Work at Drop-Off?
QR code returns let customers ship without a printer. With USPS Label Broker, the customer gets a QR code. It shows an 8-10 character ID below it. A Post Office associate scans it and prints the label. Only participating Post Offices offer this service.

Customers bring a sealed, ready package. Some Post Offices offer a Label Broker kiosk instead. Check the USPS Label Broker page for participating locations.
UPS® Mobile Barcode locations print from a phone barcode. Not every UPS Access Point® offers it. So confirm the service before sending customers there.
Clear return instructions save support tickets. Name the carrier and location type in every return email.
How Do USPS and UPS® Pickups Work in Peak Season?
UPS® offers one-time and recurring pickups. One-time pickups carry a fee per request, not per package. USPS Package Pickup is free during regular delivery. USPS Pickup on Demand charges for a set window. Holiday closures shift every option, so plan early. Book the day before whenever you can.

| Pickup option | Cost | Booking deadline | Timing |
|---|---|---|---|
| UPS On-Call Pickup® (one-time) | Fee per request; surcharges may apply | Shows available dates by service | Within your chosen window |
| UPS Smart Pickup® and recurring | Varies by option | Set up in your UPS® account | Daily, set days, or as needed |
| USPS Package Pickup | Free, any package count | 2:00 a.m. Central Time, pickup day | Any time that day |
| USPS Pickup on Demand | Fee per trip | 5:00 a.m. local time, pickup day | Within about two hours |

UPS® lists one-time pickup pricing in its rate guide. Residential, area, and fuel surcharges may apply. USPS caps pickup items at 70 lbs.

USPS Pickup vs Drop Off: When Does Pickup Win?
Pickup wins when boxes are many or heavy. It also wins when the trip costs more than time. Drop-off wins when you need a same-day scan. It also helps if you missed the pickup booking deadline. Your daily volume decides most cases.
| Your situation | Better fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Ten boxes ready by morning | USPS Package Pickup | Free, with no per-package charge |
| One urgent air box at 3 p.m. | Drop-off before the Air cutoff | Same-day scan, no waiting |
| Missed the 2:00 a.m. USPS deadline | Drop-off or Pickup on Demand | Free pickup slips a day |
| Box over a retail partner’s limit | The UPS Store® or Customer Center | Staff can check size and packing |
| Daily UPS® volume, every weekday | UPS® recurring pickup | One schedule replaces daily trips |
| Customer return without a printer | Label Broker Post Office | Staff print from the QR code |
UPS® Ground and UPS® air services are available in Rollo Ship. UPS® pickups are available at selected addresses, and fees may apply. There’s no label fee on your first 200 labels, then 5¢ per label (as low as 1¢ with Rollo Rewards). Carrier postage still applies.
Here’s the pattern most shippers miss. A pickup is only booked once a label exists. So late labels become late pickups.
Print labels the evening before. Then book pickups before the deadline. That one habit protects the most December orders.
Print Tonight’s
Labels in One Batch

Late labels become late pickups. The Rollo Wireless Printer prints a label per second.
It works over Wi-Fi and needs no ink. It’s optional and designed to work with Rollo Ship.
Keep a drop-off receipt either way. It proves when the carrier got your package. You’ll need it for refund requests or delay claims.
What Makes a Drop-Off or Pickup Go Wrong?
Most failed handoffs come from small mismatches. The box goes to the wrong carrier’s location. Or it arrives after the posted cutoff. Pickups fail when no label exists yet. They also fail at PO Box addresses. Big boxes can hit retail partner size limits.

Stamped heavy items in blue boxes come back. Each miss costs a business day in peak season.
The fix is one place for labels and pickups. A shipping app can hold both.

Frequently Asked Questions About USPS and UPS® Drop-Off
Where can I drop off a USPS package?
Drop USPS packages at a Post Office counter or lobby. Blue collection boxes take online-label items that fit. Package Drop Units accept prepaid packages only. Your mail carrier can also take prepaid packages. Stamped items over 10 oz go to a retail counter. Check posted collection times before you drop.
Can I put a package with a prepaid label in a blue USPS box?
Yes, if it fits through the slot. USPS allows items with online labels in collection boxes. They need correct postage and return information. The 10 oz limit applies to stamped items. Stamped items over half an inch thick also go there. Drop before the last posted collection time.
Does UPS® charge for package pickup?
UPS® charges a fee for one-time pickups. The fee applies per request, not per package. Residential, area and fuel surcharges may apply. UPS® lists current pricing in its Rate and Service Guide. Recurring options include Daily, Day-Specific and Smart Pickup®.
What is the latest drop-off time at UPS®?
Each UPS® location sets its own time. The UPS® location finder shows each location’s latest drop-off. It lists Ground and Air times separately. Retail partners can close out early in the afternoon. Packages dropped after the cutoff move the next business day. That shifts your delivery estimate too.
Can I return a package with a QR code instead of a label?
Often, yes. With USPS Label Broker, Post Office staff scan your code. They print the label at the counter. Only participating Post Offices offer this service. Some offer a Label Broker kiosk instead. UPS® Mobile Barcode locations print labels from phone barcodes. Bring a sealed, ready package.
Can I put a USPS package in my mailbox?
Yes, for small stamped packages and online-label packages. Stamped items have to be under 10 oz. They also stay under half an inch thick. The carrier leaves heavier stamped items behind. Packages with printed online labels can use any drop-off method. For several boxes, schedule free USPS Package Pickup instead.
Can I drop off USPS items at a UPS Store®?
Drop USPS-labeled items at a USPS location instead. Per USPS, other carriers’ items left there wait. That carrier collects them at its own convenience. The same logic applies in reverse. Match each package to its label’s carrier. That keeps the first tracking scan on schedule.
Where can I take a USPS package to return?
Take a USPS return to any Post Office counter. Online-label returns can go in a collection box that fits. Free Package Pickup also covers eligible returns. Return items still need prepaid postage. Got a QR code instead of a label? Use a Post Office offering USPS Label Broker.
Is it better to schedule a pickup or drop off a package?
It depends on volume and timing. Pickup suits several boxes ready by morning. USPS Package Pickup is free, regardless of package count. Drop-off suits one urgent box that needs a same-day scan. Rollo Ship books free USPS pickups once labels exist. Keep a drop-off receipt either way.
Can I schedule USPS and UPS® pickups in Rollo Ship?
Yes. Buy the label in Rollo Ship first. Free USPS pickups can then be scheduled for shipments from the U.S. UPS® offers pickups at selected U.S. and Canadian addresses. Fees may apply and show when you buy postage. Use a street address, not a PO Box. Check All Transactions to confirm the booking.
